Architectural Elegance and Natural Grace
The Taman Ujung Water Palace, also known as “Taman Sukasada,” is a ruined water palace built during the early part of the 20th century by King Karangasem. Located by the seaside and in the shadow of the grandeur of Mount Agung, this beautiful garden features fascinating scenery complemented by pools and pavilions made in classic Balinese style.
In the layout of Taman Ujung, the relationship between human-made designs and the natural environment reveals a harmonious approach. With open spaces, elongated bridges of stones, and symmetrical pond arrangements in the garden, a sense of openness and serenity pervades the place. Even the blowing sea breeze, the gurgling sounds of the water feature, along with the distant outline of Mount Agung in the background, further intensifies the sense of serenity in the garden.

A Royal Garden Shaped by History
Established in the early 20th century by the King of Karangasem, the garden was intended for the private enjoyment and ritual observances of the royal family. Unlike most Balinese palaces, the design incorporates elements from Balinese architecture as well as European and Chinese styles in recognition of the historical links between the island of Bali and the world beyond. Although the garden was affected by the eruption of volcano Agung in 1963 and earthquakes in later years, it has been restored to restore it to its original beauty.
"Taking a walk through the park is akin to deciphering the footsteps of the past. Extended bridges stretch over the still waters of reflecting pools to pavilions where royalty held court. Statues of rock, lotus-shaped buildings, as well as perfectly balanced walkways, all bear testimony to a period when the garden was a manifestation of power, luxury, and a confluence of mankind with nature”.
