History of Garuda Wisnu Kencana

Ida Bagus Gde Tugur, a Balinese artist, initiated the construction of GWK in 1997. The structure used 4,000 tons of iron and 2,000 tons of marble. Due to financial issues, the project was halted in 2004 but resumed in 2013. The statue was completed in 2018 and was inaugurated by the President of Indonesia.
